Upcoming events at the OTMC Ben Rudd's Property
November 6, 2016 (Sunday)
Ben Rudd - Rhododendrons (Easy, 3-5 hours walking)
This OTMC day trip will visit the Rhododendrons Dell, located on the club's Ben Rudd's property. The dell is is accessed via the Jim Freeman Track, which descends from the Ben Rudd Shelter track and connects to the various walking tracks in the Whare Flat catchment.
The rhododendrons were planted by the late Bruce Campbell, an OTC / OTMC Life Member in the 1950's. The Rhododendrons flower later than in the city, hence this November day trip should see them at their best.
The management plan and QEII covenant for the property outline the vision to restore the Ben Rudd property to it's native condition - the Rhodoendrens pre-date this and are allowed to remain due to their significance to the club. No furtther non-native plantings will occur on the property.
Contact Alan Thomson on (03) 4557878 for more details - this trip will leave from the OTMC clubrooms (3 Young Street) at 9am on November 6, 2016
