Trip 007 - Doctors Point & McKessar Track

Although this particular circuit is relatively recent on the OTMC trip programme, club activity in the area dates back to 1926 (and possibly earlier with informal trips, or trips that passed through the area).

This trip is a pleasant round trip from Doctor’s Point - it includes a section of beach walking with a possible detour Mapoutahi (previously referred to as Goat Island). An enjoyable wander along the edge of the Pūrākanui Inlet brings you to the climb to the former Pūrākanui railway station and the start of the McKessar Track. This sidles around the northern side of Mopanui, coming out at the end of the formed Mopanui Road. From here the circuit is completed by combining the Mopanui Ridge Track and White Road to Doctor’s Point.
