Trip 010 - Ahuriri Valley & Canyon Creek

The first Otago Tramping Club trip to the Ahuriri Valley was one of the options offered as a Christmas trip in 1947/48. Since then there have been over 30 trips to the area, most of these have been standard two day trips, but during the 1950s and 1960s these were 3-5 day trips due to the effort required to get there.

We plan to run this trip the same way as the recent Greenstone / Caples trip, with multiple options to suit varying fitness levels (subject to party leader availability).

We should be able to get vehicles close to the Ahuriri Base Hut. From here trips can be undertaken into the popular Canyon Creek, or over to the upper Dingle Burn via a tracked1450m saddle.
