Trip 011 - Rock & Pillar Range (Leaning Lodge)

The first Otago Tramping Club trip to the Rock and Pillar Range was during Labour Weekend 1925, and only a handful of trips were run until the 1970’s. The purchase of Leaning Lodge in the early 1970’s. and later Big Hut in the 1980’s saw the area well-used as a cross-country ski area.

This trip is a fitter trip, and will visit both Leaning Lodge, Big Hut as well as the summit of the range.

The Over Thirties Club (formed as a sub-group of the OTMC in the early 1970's) included trips to Leaning Lodge and the Rock & Pillars as part of their tramping programme. This trip celebrates one of the OTC's early trips to the R&P's 48 years ago on November 17, 1974.
