TRIP GRADE: E (3-5 hours)

Given the prominence
of Mt Cargill / Kapukataumahaka, it has featured in over 150
club trips, with the first trips taking place in 1924. This trip
is a return trip from Bethunes Gully, where a sawmill and brick
kiln were located in the 1870’s.
Another example of columnar basalt rock formations as seen on
last week’s trip to the Pyramids can be seen at the Organ Pipes.
Although these are not as impressive as early club members would
have witnessed, they are still worth having a good look around
(good grip soles are recommended).
