Trip 031 - OTMC Silver Peaks Half Marathon

I1972 was the first official OTMC Silver Peaks Marathon – a 60km circuit from Glenleith to the northern end of the Silver Peaks (The Gap) and return. It has been treated as both a race and a challenge, but numbers started to decline in the early 1990’s. To keep the tradition of an OTMC endurance trip alive, the half-marathon option was added. At 35km or so, this is still a serious test of endurance. The route is as follows:

Start (and finish) at the Booth Road end of the Pineapple Track, and pass or traverse these points:

• Pineapple Track - Flagstaff Summit – Bullring – Flagstaff / Whare Flat Rd (5.5km) – Silverstream Track – Powder Ridge – Long Ridge – Green Hut Site – Swampy Ridge Route – Swampy Summit – Swampy Summit Track – Pineapple Track

In 2023 it is not expected this to be a race but will be run as a normal trip with everyone sticking together. There are various points people can drop out and arrange rides home (there is good mobile coverage everywhere except Whare Flat). Now is a good time to start training!

At this stage the start time is 6am as per the original Half Marathons, but this will be confirmed in upcoming Weekly Updates.
