Trip 039 - Fiordland - 3 Days
DATE:
March 18-20, 2023 (3-Days)
LEADER: To be advised
GRADE: All (dependant on suitable leaders)
The first Otago Tramping Club to Fiordland was to the Milford Track during the 1928/29 Xmas / New Year period). The next listed trip was not until the 1961 Easter trip to Mistake Creek. There is, however, photographic and trip report evidence of trips to the Eglinton Valley from the 1930’s as the road was established.
Overall, there have been over 240 trips to all parts of Fiordland. The Eglinton Valley and surrounds was a popular location for some very large Bushcraft optional weekend trips given the range of options available.
Depending on leader availability, this three-day trip can have multiple options, including:
-
Livingstone Mountains: traverse from Key Summit to either Lake McKellar, Cascade Creek or the East Eglinton (or a there and back trip)
-
Hut Creek / Mistake Creek circuit
-
Falls Creek
-
Trips into the head of the Greenstone (Lake McKellar)
-
Day Trips, including Homer Saddle, Gertrude Saddle, Lake Marion and Lake McKenzie
