The third trip run by the Otago Tramping Club was to Harbour Cone on September 9, 1923. The trip departed the wharf at Dunedin at 10am to catch the ferry to Portobello, where the trip arrived at 11.30am.
The day was misty so the trip didn’t go to the top, and returned to Andersons Bay by walking ‘briskly’ to the tram terminus, where they arrived just before 4.00pm.
This trip will make use of the road instead of the ferry, and is a relatively short return trip from Bacon Street. Harbour Cone is remnants of a volcano that erupted 10-13 million years ago, and offers fantastic 360° views.
