Trip 042 - Heyward Point

DATE: March 26, 2023 (Sunday)
LEADER: Gordon Tocher (021 677 818)
TRIP GRADE: Easy-Moderate (4-6 hrs)
MEET: Woodhaugh, 9am

The first club trip that visited Heyward Point was described as ‘Purakanui via Heyward Point & Beaches’, and caught the 9.40am train to Port Chalmers, and presumably walked from there.

Since then there was a handful of trips to Heyward Point from various starting points, with more regular trips to the area in the 2000’s.

This trip is starting in Aramoana with a steep climb coupled with impressive views over Aramoana, the Mole and Taiaroa Head. After carefully traversing the cliff tops above Spit Beach, we drop down to Heyward Point, which features plentiful sea and bird life.

There may be an option to visit the nearby Kaikai Beach or the Aramoana Wetlands.
