Trip 046 - Racemans - Little Coal Creek - Steve Amies - Tunnel Track (circuit)
DATE:
April 9, 2023 (Easter - Sunday)
LEADER: Debbie Guthrie (022 020 3545)
TRIP GRADE: Moderate (5-7 Hours)
MEET: Clubrooms, 9am
Club trips to the wider Whare Flat area have been the second most numerous over our 100 years, with over 600 trips recorded (the Silver Peaks is our most popular tramping destination).
The first trip to mention the Silver Stream Water Race was in December 1924. The race itself was built between 1877 and 1881, and transported water all the way to Kaikorai Valley.
Now that it is disused, we have been left with many walking opportunities along the old Racemans tracks.
This trip will visit the top weir / race intake, before heading up the North Coal Creek track to where it meets the Steve Amies Track, which we will descend to the Tunnel Track.
