Unveiling of Seats and Plaques

The club has tramped in the Silver Peaks for every one of our 100 Years, and the areas importance to the OTC and OTMC is unsurpassed. A special general meeting of the club agreed to build a club hut in the Silver Peaks. This was constructed over the next three months below Green Hill.

The hut was opened on June 3, 1933, and became the main base for club activity over the next few years. In time, usage declined, in part due to occupation by pig hunters, and the encroachment of Semple Road.

Jubilee Hut was built in the late 1940’s as the club’s 25th Anniversary project and became more important to the club.

For many years the club struggled with keeping Green Hut habitable, but by the winter of 1988 this has become untenable, and the hut was quietly dismantled. Today the site is now just a small clearing on the way to Pulpit Rock.

As part of the club centenary, we have combined with the Green Hut Track Group to reinstate the two seats that were in place in early 2016 (and subsequently vandalised). This trip is the unveiling of the seats, as well as a chance for the club to officially acknowledge the great work the Track Group undertakes.

We are also revisiting the hut site as part of the centenary weekend (on Labour Day, 100 years since the first OTC trip to the Silver Peaks).
