Trip 062 - Government Track

The Government Track, accessed from the lower Waipori Gorge, is an historic track that was constructed in the 1860’s gold rush days. As it was used as a dray track, it has a consistent gradient along much of it’s length.

The first club trip to the Government Track was just over 40 years ago, in 1982. Since then another 27 trips have been included on the trip programme, including a couple of cycle trips.

This trip is a ‘there and back’ trip, starting and finishing from Waipori Falls Road. The track climbs 500m, and the return trip is around 17km.
