Trip 072 - Flagstaff...Without Walkways

DATE: July 16, 2023 (Sunday)
LEADER: Debbie Pettinger (027 473 7924)
TRIP GRADE: M (5-7 Hours)
MEET: Woodhaugh, 9am

This is essentially a repeat of two trips David Barnes led for the club in 1993 and 1994. These were advertised ‘as a must for all those interested in lesser-known local tracks. A double traverse of Flagstaff visiting the Jim Freeman Track, Nicols Falls and much more.’

We have run over 350 trips to the Flagstaff area alone, and many more to the adjacent Swampy and Nicols Creek area.

The trip is maybe a bit easier today as the Davies Track, from Booth Road / McGouns Track, has been re-established since David’s trips. Equally, McQuilkans Track & the Moon Track have also benefited from improvements over the intervening years.

Flagstaff remains important to the club, and our history with the area can be traced right back to the very first club trip on September 1, 1923. Since then, we have acquired Ben Rudd’s property, and installed the plane table at the summit for the club’s 50th anniversary. Now we are establishing a lookout at Pineapple Point as a gift to the public as part of our Centenary.
