Trip 089 - Nicols Creek - Powerline Track - Morrisons Burn

A number of circuit trips are available between Swampy Ridge and Leith Valley. Nicols Creek is regularly visited by trampers, but it appears that the adjacent Morrisons Burn isn’t used so much (the Three Peaks running race use the Burn as part of the route from Swampy to Mt Cargill).

Early Otago Tramping Club trips started using Morrisons Burn as access to Swampy from 1924, and it wasn’t until 1933 that the first OTC trip to Nicols Creek was recorded.

This trip will travel up Nicols Creek to the Swampy Ridge Track (multiple options to choose from), then head upwards along Swampy Ridge to the Powerline Track, and then descend back to Leith Valley via Morrisons Burn.

A short road walk completes the loop.
