Trip 094 - Hightop - Greengage - Raingauge - Swampy Ridge circuit
DATE:

LEADER: Antony Pettinger
TRIP GRADE: Moderate-Fit (6-7 hours)
MEET:
Woodhaugh,
8am
The Greengage Track follows an earlier route into the Silver Peaks from the Silverstream – in the early 2000s late club member Bill Wilson led the reopening of the route and the Green Hut Track Group and others have ensured the track has remained open since then.
The club has used the Greengage Track in various combinations over the years. A longer trip is from Whare Flat, up Powder and Long Ridges to Pulpit Rock, and return via Green Ridge to the Greengage Track. Once at the creek, trips have either continued up to Raingauge Spur, or simply creek-bashed down to the top weir in the Silverstream.
Another version has been from the Leith Saddle and uses the Burns Track and Green Ridge to reach the Greengage Track – after climbing up to Raingauge Spur, it is along the top of Swampy to the Leith Saddle Walkway to complete a loop.
This version will start from the Silver Peaks Semple Road car park, and head along Green Ridge to just before the former Green Hut Site. Here, Greengage Track branches off – after climbing a bit, the track becomes increasingly steep until a rope is reached for the final drop into the Silverstream. After an equally steep climb up the other side, we will use the Raingauge, Rollinsons and Swampy tracks to get back to Semple Road.
